Russia registers 8 ceasefire violations in Syria over past 24 hours

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Russian side of the Russian-Turkish commission on the Syrian reconciliation has recorded eight cases of ceasefire violations in Syria over the past 24 hours, while the Turkish side has registered one truce breach, the Russian Defense Ministry said Monday.

“Situation in the de-escalation zones is assessed as stable. Over the last 24 hours, the Russian party of the Russia-Turkey Commission on violations of the Joint Agreement has registered eight cases of firing in the provinces of Aleppo (3), Daraa (1), Homs (3), and Damascus (1),”

the ministerial statement read.

The Turkish side recorded the ceasefire violations in the Damascus province, the ministry said.

According to the statement, most incidents have been registered in the areas controlled by Jabhat Fatah al Sham (formerly known as Nusra Front) and the Islamic State (IS) terrorist groups, both outlawed in Russia.

“Over the last 24 hours, four ceasefire agreements have been signed: settlements of Khirbat al-Jame, Masri al-Ashkh, Al-Amarah (Hama province), and al-Ghantu (Homs province). Total number of settlements that had signed reconciliation agreements is 2,248,”

the ministry noted.

In addition, a total of 126 local civilians and 71 servicemen of the Syrian army have received Russia’s medical aid, the statement said.

Russia, alongside Iran and Turkey, is a guarantor of the ceasefire regime in Syria. Moscow has also been assisting Damascus both through supporting the struggle against the terrorist groups and by providing humanitarian aid to the residents of the crisis-torn country.
