ANKARA (Sputnik) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to discuss cooperation in the fight against terrorists in the Syrian Idlib at the meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Monday.
“Let’s define together who are terrorists [out of those who are] in Idlib,”
Cavusoglu said as broadcast by A Haber TV-channel, adding that it is one of the topics that would be discussed during Putin’s forthcoming visit to Turkey.
Cavusoglu said that the Russian side was lately conducting an operation in Idlib directed against terrorists, but the bombing “has killed many civilians and moderate opposition fighters.”
According to the Turkish foreign minister, one should be careful about bombings in Syria, “otherwise there may be a violation of the Astana agreements.”
Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Sputnik that Putin and Erdogan had held a phone conversation.
Last week, Peskov told Sputnik that the preparations of a meeting between Putin and Erdogan were underway.
