Yes, Southern Europeans are, perhaps not food obsessed, but certainly aware of the difference between real food and the cheap processed junk that people in the US and the UK eat. I have watched many videos about nutrition and it has astonished me how people don’t seem to eat at a table in the UK, just scoff in front of the TV, as if they were loading logs into a sawmill.
