All very true, but many people seem to be misinformed about one detail. There is nothing in the least new about such a state of affairs. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the USA was already a “free market” – that is, one in which everything, from political office and laws to beliefs and opinions, are for sale to the highest bidder.
