North Korean media is reporting a statement from the country’s leader Kim Jong-Un which states that Pyongyang will never cease building its nuclear programme until its capabilities and arsenal are equal to that of the United States.
This comes hours after Donald Trump announced plans to end the so-called Defense Spending Sequester which caps the amount of money the US armed forces can be given during any given financial year.
In this sense, both the US and North Korea appear to be in an open arms race. While the US is vastly ahead of North Korea in terms of nuclear firepower, the duel announcements go against the spirit of the Sino-Russian peace plan for Korea which calls for a ‘double-freeze’ on weapons build-ups among both Korean States. This includes a request that the US ceases its deliveries of THAAD missile systems to South Korea.
Earlier, South Korean President Moon Jae-in stated that if necessary his country is ready to completely destroy North Korea.
None of these statements bode well in respect of de-escalating the conflict.

More nonsense. North Korea will never have “parity” with the US’ 5-6,000 nuclear warheads. Just more bombast from NK. Kim is an idiot. He doesn’t realize that nukes are only a deterrent if you have enough of them in a deliverable form – to be a credible existential threat. NK doesn’t have that and the more he threatens, the more his REAL conventional deterrent erodes its deterrent value. When DPRK has confirmed the ability to do serious damage to the lickspittles of the south, Japan and US empire bases in the region, a state of MAD and peace will sadly be in place.

Apparently both North and South missile tests fly over Japan into the Pacific. It’s a worry, what will happen, if an “accident”/false flag occurs! Like I said before, MAD is a sad state to engage in international relations with.

You have TOTALLY misunderstood the point of his comment. He is well aware that DPRK will never have parity with the US in terms of nuclear arsenal. However that means that DPRK will continue down its nuclear path as is its right ….as much right as the US has to maintain such an arsenal considering that its the only country in the world irresponsible enough to have deployed such weapons against civilian targets.
